How to Access the Dark Web

You’ve probably heard about the terms Tor and dark web in the media. However, accessing these websites isn’t as risky as they sound. In fact, it’s quite easy to get it up and running.

The dark web is a set of websites that are not found by search engines such as Google. It’s the portion of the internet where data and information that would otherwise be private is stored. For instance, email inboxes as well affiliate marketing SendInBlue as online banking logins and Google Drive folders live on the deep web – they aren’t visible to users using a normal browser.

There are a myriad of websites on the dark web which serve legitimate functions. For instance, the site SecureDrop is a dark web site that allows whistleblowers to send sensitive information to news agencies anonymously. There are sites which allow users to buy and sell stolen credentials, such as passwords, credit card numbers and social security numbers. These websites are often referred to as ‘marketplaces’ and the most well-known examples are Silk Road and AlphaBay, but there are lots of others which have been shut down.

Tor is the primary way to access the dark web. It routes your connection via a variety of free servers scattered across the globe. This makes it impossible for anyone to trace you. Tor is named so because the data it encodes is processed through a variety of layers, similar to the onion layering of pizza, which helps ensure your privacy.
